As the dawn of the new day sets in, along with it comes the news that Mufasa has got a Cub. Mufasa is the Lion King in the jungle of Savanna. So all the loyal along with not so loyal inhabitants of Savanna, gather to share the happiness of Mufasa as well as witness their future king.
It was a happy and pride moment for the royal family as they have got themselves someone who will take his place on the Lion King throne. But one member of the royal family didn't think the same; it was Scar, Mufasa's brother, who urged to make his way to the throne even if that means getting rid of his own brother and nephew.
Both the brothers had the different ways of ruling the kingdom. On one hand, Mufasa ruled over the kingdom with love and wisdom, which is why he was loved by his loyal subjects; but on the other hand Scar was general example of a baddie and some one who is feared. Mufasa teaches his cub, Simba, the balance of nature and that everything stays in that balance and also explained the circle of life.
When it comes to feared and loathed creatures Scar wasn't the only one around in the kingdom, there were some other hated creatures as well, which were hyenas, who hated Mufasa and Simba as much as Scar did. Hence keeping that in mind Scar went into an alliance with the Hyenas to formulate a plan to get rid of both the king and the prince of Savanna, as this was his only way to get to the throne. The part one of the plans was to get rid of Mufasa and to achieve that Scar along with hyenas created a stampede, and during that rush he killed his brother and made it look like an accident.
Even though Simba has nothing to do with it, but scar managed to put all the blame on Simba and made him feel guilty and advised him to just run away and never come back. Simba all drowned in guilt, having no other options left; ran away from his kingdom after which Scar overtook the throne as the next king of Savanna.
Even though Simba was out of Scar's way for now, but still he wasn't out of his life; hence to make sure that he never returns to claim his kingdom back, order was given to hyenas by scar to kill Simba, but fortunately Simba was lucky enough to save him self from the hands of death. Simba manages to run away to another land, where he instantly made some friends, while back at his kingdom everyone thought that he is dead, whilst Simba started off his new life at that new place he was at. But no one can change the fate, which is why Simba is destined to return to his kingdom and become its rightful king. But the question is will he do so? The question will be answered on the stage adaptation of Disney's super hit animation The Loin King. It was directed by the designer and award winning director Julie Taymor. As of today, this adaptation has managed to win six Tony awards in the year 1998 that includes the awards for best Choreography, Musical and Direction.
The battle begins, and as the lionesses and hyenas fight, Simba does battle with Scar on the summit. Scar tried to blame everything on the hyenas, who happen to overhear Scar. Obviously, they are not pleased. There is a climatic combat and Simba is thrown to the edge of the cliff. Scar jumps through the flames to finish Simba off but it is Simba who throws his uncle over the cliff edge and watches as Scar's former hyena allies devour the dictator. Simba is finally declared king and leads the Pride Lands back into times of prosperity and glory. Simba and Nala have a baby cub that is presented in a triumphant ceremony, regalia reminiscent of the film's beginning. Circle of life indeed!
The righteous and the rightful is vindicated and the natural order is restored towards the end. Any theater lover, this scribe included is reminded of Shakespeare. Ghost of the dead father urging son to restore order. Can you say, Hamlet? OK, so Lion King is Hamlet but with a happy ending. Here I argue that we as Americans don't like unhappy endings. We all like the Jerry who gets blown up by Tom with a ton of dynamite, and he's none worse for the wear. A few stars, a little bump and that's about it. To be fair, the fan fare and the regalia is rather nice and do we really want to spent a few hundred dollars on theater where we come home depressed by Hamlet's fate? And how exactly can we fit in, gazelles, savannahs and wildebeests in Denmark.
