The creative organization, Blue Man Group, was created by Phil Stanton, Chris Wink and Matt Goldman. The act of Blue Man Group mainly revolves around the three mute performers who are colored blue with the grease paint along with black clothing and latex bald caps. The trio is accompanied by another of three musicians who are also oddly covered with ultra violet paint, who play different kinds of instruments. The creators of the group, Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton were friends even before they formed this group up in 1988. The before they formed the Blue Man Group up they used to work as caterers for Glorious Foods located in Manhattan. New York. The trio took the role of Blue Men, while rest of the crew members took the charge of lights, stage or sound. Before there act got promoted to the stage, the used to perform for the passersby on the Streets in Blue Man Regalia in 1987. Apart from their street performances they also got some brief parts in the underground cabarets of The Alien Comic, Tom Murrin at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre.

While they were performing in The CLUB at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre, their performance was witnessed by the Artistic Director of The CLUB, Meryl Vladimer, who was so moved by their performance that she commissioned them to perform their own show of full length. "Tubes" was their full length performance, which on the persuasion of Vladimer, was reviewed by New York Times critic Stephen Holden. Later Blue Man Group's repute started to rise and soon the trio of creators won an Obie Award as well as Lucille Lortel Award. It was their popularity that led their act "Tubes" to Broadway where it opened at Astor Place Theatre in 1991.

Blue Man Group also released their album containing their instrumentals from stage as well as new instrumentals contained new kind of instruments. The album was released in 1999 and was called Audio. The group drifted more towards the rock genre during their performance in Moby's Area 2 Tour in 2002. The following year they released another one of their albums titled, The Complex that contained their songs from their Moby's Area 2 Tour. "The Complex" didn't only contain instrumentals like their first album was, but it also featured different vocalists and guests appearances by the like of Dave Mathews, Tracy Bonham, Venus Hum and Gavin Rossdale. "The Complex" was instantly followed by their headlining tour that also featured Tracy Bonham and Venus Hum. In 2004, their tour was also released on DVD's.

Blue Man Group's second tour began on September 26, 2006 called "How to Be a Megastar Tour 2.0". Tracy Bonham performed as the opening act of the tour, while several additions were made to acts performed by the group as compared to their "The Complex Tour".
