Utah Jazz
Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Utah Jazz is a professional Basketball team of NBA. Utah Jazz was basically founded with the name of New Orleans Jazz in 1974. Team played five consecutive seasons of NBA under that name, and unfortunately they lost all five of them, so due to this and due to Sam Battistone's discontent in New Orleans, the team finally moved from New Orleans to Salt Lake City in Utah in 1979.
The team was given the name Jazz, due to the jazz culture that flourished in the New Orleans, but since the team moved its place and shifted to Utah it was thought that team's name would now be changed to Saints, as Saints were the ones who founded the state of Utah and all the sports team from Utah play under the name of Saints.
But the team kept on playing under the name of Jazz, and never changed its name to Saints. While talking to the head coach of the team, Frank Layden, about the reason of not changing the name, he stated that teams' name wasn't changed because no one though that the team would last that long that's why no body bothered about changing the teams' name. Before the commencement of 1979-80 season, which was basically Jazz's first season that they played from Utah, Jazz's roster welcomed a new member, Adrian Dantley, from Los Angeles Lakers.
During the 1980's and 1990's era, Utah Jazz came out to be the most successful team in NBA. During 1980's several additions were made to the roster of Utah jazz, which were the addition of John Stockton who was drafted from Gonzaga University in 1984 and the following year Karl Malone was added up to the roster who was drafted from Louisiana Tech in 1985. These two additions to the roster came out to be really beneficent on the part of the team. Stockton and Malone soon became the superstars and the Duo was known to be unstoppable due to their running picks and roll plays. Although Utah Jazz's performance in the 1984-85 and 1985-86 season wasn't that good, but it wasn't long lived, Utah Jazz started to raise their reputation in later seasons.
As soon as the 1990's era set in, it brings bad luck to the team as the team started losing playoffs continuously. They faced their first playoff loss in 1990 as they lost to Phoenix Suns. Then later on they continued their losing streak as they lost again to Portland Trail Blazers in the following season in 1991. New additions were also made in the roster of Utah Jazz, as the addition of Jeff Malone was made to the roster in 1990-91 season, while Darrel Griffith was waived off in the 1991-92 season.
Also in 1991, the team moved its home which was Old Salt Palace, and moved to Delta Center. After they changed their home 1991, the following year came out to be a bit better for Jazz than it was before. In 1992 the team made to the conference finals at last. But this wasn't longed lived as well, as they lost in a playoff again in 1993. They team this time was defeated by Seattle Supersonics in the first round. Addition of Jeff Hornacek was made in the 1993-94 season.
Unlike other seasons, 2006-07 season started of really well for Utah Jazz, hitting up the league and franchise best record of 12–1 even though Kirilenko missed 5 games due to his injury. As a reserve Carlos Boozer was selected for his first ever All-Star game but he missed the game to his injury.
Huge amount of improvement was also seen in Williams as he finished second in the league in assists per game, with 9.3. Jazz's roster for 2006-07 season was a good one hence on 25 March they grabbed their first playoff berth in 4 seasons and three days later on 28 March won division title. Their last few weeks of the season weren't as good as their first weeks they finished with 51–31 record, still it is their best record in 6 seasons.
