But the owners of American League refused to do so in 1940. Following year, due to the bombings as Pearl Harbor any sort of major league sports were made unviable due to which the idea of moving St. Louis Brown to Los Angeles again came into play in 1953. But the following year, team was sold before the 1954 season and it moved to Baltimore with the name of Orioles.
1970's in the Angels history are accounted as the mediocre years of the franchise, but apart from that, Angel's pitcher Nolan Ryan happened to be the catch of most of the team's fans' eyes. Throughout his career Ryan is known of setting several records on the part of no hit games and strike outs. One of the major records made by Ryan was in 1973 when he made a 383 strike out mark setting a major league record that still exists. Nolan Ryan was induced in Angels of Anaheim as Jim Fregosi was traded to the Mets and in return team acquired Ryan. Ryan was Mets middle relief pitcher when Mets won their World Series in 1969. Due to his swift and speedy pitching, among fans Ryan is also known as the Ryan Express. Another reason why Ryan was known as Ryan Express was due to the reference to a 1965 release Von Ryan's Express.
Angels won their first and only World Series Title, as of today, in 2002. Later on Angels worked their way up to win a total of 99 games and ultimately earning a wildcard berth. At that time Angels were at the second spot in division as Oakland Athletics took the #1 spot after winning 103 games. In the World Series of 2002, Angels were squared off against San Francisco Giants. Giants managed to win Game 1, but the following Game 2 and Game 3 were won by the Angels. Later Game 4 and 5 again saw the come back of Giants as the winners. Then later in Game 6 after nearly being eliminated Angels won the game with 6-5 and moved on to win Game 7 as well to themselves their World Series Title.
