Florida State League baseball team, The Clearwater Threshers, is based in Clearwater, Florida. Before 2004, the Clearwater Threshers were known as the Clearwater Phillies, and played at Jack Russell Stadium. Since the 2004 season, they have played in the West Division of the Florida State League, and are the high-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Threshers play their home games at Bright House Field which was opened in 2004. The ballpark can accommodate more than 7,000 fans.

Former Phillie and Hall of Famer, Mike Schmidt managed the franchise in 2004, Greg Legg in 2005 and 2006, Dave Huppert managed the team for the 2007 season whereas Razor Shines is the present manager of the Threshers. They tacked on what proved to be the deciding run on a homer in the seventh off of Andrew Cruse.

The two teams had another encounter in the final game of the series as the Threshers try to salvage a split on Wednesday with first pitch at noon. A night after managing just one base runner, the Threshers started things off offensively with a walk by Quintin Berry. The free pass was followed by two consecutive singles by Carlos Leon and Adrian Cardenas, doubling the Thresher hit total.

A double steal placed both Leon and Cardenas to third and second, respectively, putting them in place to score when Clay Harris scored single. Matt Spencer drew a two-out walk. The Threshers would strand Spencer and Harris to end the inning leading 3-0. The lead was extended to four for the home team in the third inning. Milner stole his 12th base and moved to second to be in scoring position on the Spencer hit.

Clearwater extended its lead back out to three when in the fifth inning Cardenas scored. Harris picked up his third RBI of the evening by singling into left once again. Brian Schlitter entered the game in the eighth allowing the Devil Rays to score an additional run in the ninth to produce the 7-3 final.
