Chicago White Sox
Chicago based Major League Baseball team, Chicago White Sox, is one of the two Major League Baseball teams that are based in Chicago, the other one is Chicago Cubs. Among fans they're more commonly known as "The Sox" as well as "The Pale Hose". As opposed by the North Sider Cubs, they are also known as "The South Siders". Since Boston Red Sox are also known as The Sox that is why just to differentiate Chicago White Sox from Boston Red Sox or BoSox national media makes use of the term ChiSox for Chicago White sox, which is basically a combination of "Chi" from Chicago and Sox. Chicago White Sox play for the Central Division of the American league and are the charter member of American League.
The team started of as a member of a minor league called Western League, which reorganized itself later in November 1893. Back then ChiSox were named as the Sioux City Cornjerkers and back then team was presided over by Ban Johnson. Shortly by the end of 1894's season Comiskey's ownership contract with Reds was over, hence he decided to take the ownership of Sioux City Cornjerkers, which he did and brought the team to St. Paul, where team enjoyed some success as they played the next five seasons there.
The team was renamed to Chicago White Sox from White Stockings, as the score keeper Christopher Hynes, on the top of the score card, wrote White Sox instead of White Stockings. The matter was covered by the media, and it was followed by the renaming of the teams.
During their 1914 season, Chicago White Sox were 70-84. During that period Chicago White Sox roster had some of the finest player at their disposal. The team included players such as Ray Schalk and Shortstop Buck Weaver, who were the catchers of the team, along with Eddie Cicotte, Red Faber and Reb Russell who were the pitchers of the team at that time. These players came out to be the regulars of the team and also went on to play championship in 1917, from which Chicago White Sox came out victories and were crowned as 1917's World Champions. In 1915, Chicago White Sox had some changes in its roster as outfielder Happy Felsch & Shoeless Joe Jackson and a second baseman Eddie Collins were added to the roster, while Pants Rowland took the charge of the team as its General Manager in 1915.
Through out Chicago White Sox history, team never had as much success as it did during its 1983 season. During that season Chicago White Sox were only one Game Over .500 and at All-Star Break they were at 39-38. By the end of the break Chicago White Sox traded Second Baseman Tony Bernazard to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for the speedy Julio Cruz. At that time White Sox were at the best of their game which is why they won the American League title as they went 60-25 in order to win 99 games.
