Chicago Cubs
One of the two Chicago based Major league baseball team, Chicago Cubs that is owned by the Tribune Company. The other Chicago based team is Chicago Red Sox, which is the charter member of American League. The team of Chicago Cubs is managed by Lou Piniella, while the club is presided over by John McDonough and Jim Hendry takes the charge of the club as its General Manager.
1869 in the baseball's history saw the up rise of the first ever openly all pro-team. That team was Cincinnati Red Stockings, which soon reached its success which was followed by a minor outburst of many other all professional teams the following year in 1870. The teams that were formed at that time had only one objective in mind and that was to defeat Cincinnati Red Stockings. Red Stockings were like the role model for the newly born teams; hence many of the teams adopted close variants of the teams name and color. However, white was the color that was selected by Chicago. Later in 1871, the National Association, which is the first ever professional league, was formed.
Chicago's roster welcomed various major players of the game right after their 1875's season. The new players that were inducted in the roster included players such as Red Stockings very own pitcher Albert Spalding, and Philadelphia Athletics first baseman Adrian Anson. During the same period of time, club's president William Hulbert was working undercover and secretly in order to form a rather strong and new organization which was the National League.
The inaugural season of the National League was held in 1876, which happened to be a great season for the White Stockings. Chicago, however, won their success in National League during 1880's which happened to their great season. During 1880 their winning percentage rose up to .798 and in addition to that they won total of 67 with only 17 losses to get themselves an all time record in the baseball history. Later in 1885 Clarkson had an average year, while the Chicago won its pennant that year. Back then when the team scored winning percentage of .798, season used to be comprised of 84 games, but now days, a normal season is comprised of 162 games, so presently to score that kind of winning percentage team would have to yield 129 wins rather than 67 wins.
