Sugarland



An American country music sensation, Sugarland, comprised of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. Jennifer is the lead vocalist of the duo, while Kristian plays acoustic guitar, mandolin and also provides the back vocals. Jennifer was born and bred in Douglas, Georgia. Before becoming a part of Sugarland, Jennifer was a member of a band known as Soul Miner's Daughter and later Jennifer parted way from that band forming her own band called Jennifer Nettles band. As far as, Kristian is concerned, before becoming a part of Sugarland, he used to play in another duo called Billy Pilgrim.

As Sugarland was formed, the duo released its debut album on October 26, 2004 titled Twice the Speed of Life. The first single of their debut album was "Baby Girl" that took #2 spot on US country music charts. Baby Girl received immense success and stayed on country music charts for 46 weeks making highest peaking debut single. Some other singles that were included in their debut album were, "Something More", "Down in Mississippi" and "Just Might".

On their performance at a Music Fusion Show called Crossroads in 2005, Sugarland featured Bon Jovi, and Jennifer along with Bon Jovi sang their single titled "Who Says You Can't Go Home", which also came out to be a huge success. Sugarland also featured it self on the tour of Kenny Chesney, that lasted from 2006 to 2007. Duo as Sugarland got its first Grammy Award nomination in 2006 for Best New Artist. They were also invited on stage and they performed their single "Something More". Apart from being nominated at Grammy Awards, Sugarland was also nominated for several categories at CMT Music Awards; in addition to that they also performed at the Awards ceremony. In 2005 Sugarland won American Music Award for "Breakthrough Favorite New Artist".

Sugarland's 2nd studio album titled "Enjoy the Ride" came out on November 7, 2006. Since Hall, according to Sugarland's website was an active performing member, the album just featured Kristian and Jennifer. The first single from their 2nd album was "Want To", which reached the #1 spot on the American Country Music Awards, as did their second single "Settlin". Album on the whole reached at #4 on the US Top 200 and at #2 on the Top Country Albums charts.

On April 6, 2007 Sugarland performed their single "Stay" at CMT Awards, and also in the same year they performed another one of their singles titled, "Everyday America" at 2007 ACM Awards. Also in 2007, Sugarland went on their first concert tour called "The Change for Change Tour" that featured opening acts by Little Big Town and Jake Owen.

In 2006, Sugarland also won Academy of Counrty Music Award for Top New Duet/Group. Later in 2007 they won CMT Music Award for Duo Vidoe of the year for their song "Want to", also on the same award giving ceremony the duo performed as well. In 2007, Sugarland also won Country Music Association Award for Vocal Dou of the Year. Sugarland performed along with Beyonce, for her song "Irreplaceable" on November 18, 2007 at the American Music Awards (AMA).

Sugarland's third studio album "Love on the Inside" was recently released on 29th July, 2008. The first single from their third album was "All I Want to Do" and it was released on May 19, 2008. And by August, the song reached #1 spot on country music charts. Their second single, "Already Gone" was recently released on 18th August, 2008. Their third album also features Little Big Town and Jake Owen. Sugarland is scheduled to start their Love on the inside Tour on September 13, 2008 in Asheville, North Carolina and is scheduled to end on November 16, 2008 after giving a total of 25 performances.

In late 2005, the band performed with Bon Jovi on Crossroads - Country Music Television's musical fusion show. They toured in US and Canada performing with Brad Paisley in 2005 and in 2006 with Brooks and Dunn. They were nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy and performed the song "Something More" at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2006.

Sugarland performed at the 2006 CMT Music Awards with bassist Annie Clements. There, they received multiple nominations including Group/Duo Video of the Year for "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," Breakthrough Video of the Year for "Something More," and Collaborative Video of the Year for "Who Says You Can't Go Home."

Hall, being a talented and poised songwriter, was credited with working on only a single track on Enjoy the Ride, and her abrupt departure from the group in 2006, leaving Sugarland a duo, was a surprise, indeed.

Sugarland released a new album on November 7, 2006 entitled Enjoy the Ride. The set sold 211,000 during its first week and opened at #4 on the US Top 200 and at #2 on the Country Chart.

Also, the duo had released a single for their sophomore album entitled "Want To." The song became the duo's first #1, spending two weeks there. The second single from the album, "Settlin'", is currently active on the charts. The video for the single was shot outside of Atlanta, Georgia, in early November. The shoot featured 461 extras, rollaway walls, and a large rotating platform. "Settlin'" was used as the theme song for the 2007 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament during Raycom Sports
