Stone Temple Pilots
Stone Temple Pilots (STP) is a somewhat strange name of an American rock band. The band was formed in 1987; it was splitted in the year of 2003 but reunited in the current year of 2008. Their music has a blend of modern alternative rock and hard rock of the 1970s.
The band had won Grammy Award for 'Best Hard Rock Performance' for their song 'Plush' in the year of 1994. It had produced the greatest hits collection with a title 'Thank You' in the year of 2003. But it was a bad time for the band, as its members began to separate their ways. The band organized a mini concert in the month of January, 2008. The band members had held a conference later and announced the reunion on a large tour of the United States.
The band had been originated, when the band member Scott Weiland met Robert DeLeo. They decided and formed a band, calling it ‘Mighty Joe Young'. At later, Robert DeLeo's brother, Dean DeLeo, joined the band as guitarist. After seeing the success and potential of the band, Eric Kretz also decided to be a part of the team and to play the drum. At that time, it was informed to them that there was a man claiming the name ‘Mighty Joe Young'. They decided to change the name to ‘Shirley Temple's Pussy' and performed in various shows under this name. They had switched over to the Stone Temple Pilots, STP after a very short interval of time.
STP had signed a contract with Atlantic Records in the year of 1992. They released their first album titled ‘Core' in September 1992. The album produced several big hits including 'Plush', 'Creep' and 'Sex Type Thing'.
Stone Temple Pilots continued had a huge fan base and lot of people, used to gather for their shows. They were on a real road of success in the year of 1993. They did two large scale shows in New York's Roseland Ballroom. The show went on in the honor of STP's childhood heroes. Having done a successful series of tour in USA, Stone Temple Pilots began working on their second album ‘Purple'. It was released in 1994 and got a number one ranking in the United States in the same year. Scot Weiland was arrested for possession of drugs in California in the year of 1995. This was a turning point foir the band members to look for their own ways.
Their third music album named 'Tiny Music'. However, Weiland's drug addiction put the band into trouble again. The band could not tolerate the rumors and the negative publicity. Weiland was released from jail, and the band reunited and released their fourth album in 1999. It proved to be another hit in the market again. Although they could not get the appreciation of the music critics, but still their fans were still showing their loyalty with the band.
In the year 2001, the band released their fifth album, Shangri-La Dee Da. ‘Days of the Week' and ‘Hollywood Bitch' were two modest rock hits. In the year 2003 the members of STP separated their ways again. The DeLeo brothers formed another band named, Army of Anyone, and released their debut album in 2006.
In January, 2008, Stone Temple Pilots arranged mini concert followed by a press conference and announced their large US tour that will last for 6 months. Also on a Miami Herald blog posted that Scott Weiland made it known publicly during a press conference that ‘the public should be on the lookout for an STP reunion in the coming months'.
