Los Angeles, California based rock band Maroon 5 is active since 1995 and is comprised of 5 band members. Adam Levine is the lead vocalist and the guitarist, Jesse Carmichael provides with the backing vocals and plays keyboard, James Valentine also gives backing vocals and is also a guitarist of the band, drummer of the band is Matt Flynn while the bass guitar is played by Mickey Madden.

Maroon five released its debut album with the title of "Songs about Jane" in June of 2002, which became a big success for the band and Maroon 5 also received a number of awards for their debut album. Apart from topping the various music charts; globally, album went gold, platinum and triple platinum. This album also included the bands' hit single "This Love".

The following year band started touring various regions in support for their album "Songs about Jane". They kept on touring till 2005, and due to this non stop touring band member Ryan Dusick was suffering from injuries due to which he had to leave the band, however Matt Flynn filled in his spot. As the bands' long series of tours ended, they released another album Friday the 13th which was basically a Live Album.

Maroon five released their second studio album, after five years of the release of their first studio album. The album was titled "It won't Be Soon before Long" and was released in May 2007. During the first week of its release half a million units were sold making their second studio album a huge success as well. Apart from that album also reached the #1 spot on Billboard 200. For the rest of the summer of 2007 after the release of their second album, Maroon 5 played in several shows to support their album and also toured North America in the fall of 2007. 4 of the band members namely Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Ryan Dusick and Mickey Madden, knew each other since Junior High School, where they studied together. All four of them joined hands and assembled a band with the name of Kara's Flowers. Before they even graduated from High School they were offered a contract with Reprise Records. Kara's Flowers released its first and only album in 1997, but it didn't receive much exposure commercially.

In 2005 Maroon 5 also played in Philadelphia at Live 8. Their set also included "Rockin' in the Free World", which was a cover of Neil Young's song. Apart from that, Adam Levine along with Stevie Wonder also performed the closing act of the night.

As of today, Maroon 5 has won a number of Awards including 3 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist (2005), Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals twice, one in 2006 and other one in 2008.

Maroon 5 has played at the Live 8 in Philadelphia [2005]. The band included a cover of Neil Young's "Rockin' In The Free World". Frontman Levine played with Stevie Wonder for the closing act.

Maroon 5's song "Harder to Breathe" has portions that may be interpreted as misogynistic. In the lyrics, Levine sings about his lover being "condescending and unnecessarily critical"… "I have a tendency of getting very physical/So watch your step, 'cause if I do you'll need a miracle." This implies that he will physically hit the woman he is addressing in the song. However, Levine says that the song was a response to the record company pressuring his band into writing more material.

The music video of "This Love" shows the lead singer Adam Levine and his previous girlfriend [model Kelly McKee] in lengthy sex scenes.
