Foo Fighters
American Rock band, formed by former drummer of famous Band Nirvana Dave Grohl, Foo Fighters was founded in 1995. The band took its name from the World War II aerial phenomena, which was also term as the Foo Fighters, which were considered to be invisible. Due to their unique and different style of making music, they have made a sound fan base for themselves by giving out hit singles such as Times like These, Best of you, The Pretender, All my Life and Learn to Fly. Foo fighters have released 6 studio albums, and two out of these six albums, namely One by One & there is nothing left to lose, also got them two Grammy Awards for the Best Rock Album.
Even though Dave Grohl could have started being a solo artist after Nirvana, as he is capable of singing as well as playing any sort of instrument, but to support his upcoming albums Grohl didn't wanted him self to be a one man show, hence he started looking for the band members and ultimately assembled the band Foo Fighters. During initial stages of his search, Grohl desired to induct also a former Nirvana's band member Krist Novoselic, but he didn't do so as he thought the Nirvana fans might call it the resurrection of Nirvana.
Hence Grohl inducted Nate Mendel as the bassist of the band and William Goldsmith as the drummer, both of them were former band members of Seattle based band called Sunny Day Real Estate. And to complete the band a Grohl added a second guitarist Pat Smear, who was also an Ex-Band member of Nirvana. After the band was assembled, Foo Fighters did their first major tour in 1995 as they did an opening act for Mike Watt.
The band started working on their fourth studio album, One by One by the end of 2001. After Grohl was done with his album, which took four months in the making Grohl went on to help Queens of Stone Age for the completion of their 2002's release titled Songs for the Deaf. The completion of Queens of Stone Age's album, Grohl was struck with new ideas and inspirations that he took from the recording sessions, hence he decided to re do some of his songs from "One by One". Instead of re-doing some of the songs of the album, the band nearly re-recorded the whole album in just 10 days, which was later released in October of 2002.
Foo Fighters gave out their next studio album in the year 2005; to be precise album was released on June 14, 2005 that was titled In Your Honor. The album was comprised on two CDs. The main idea behind releasing the album on two CDs was later disclosed by Grohl who said the first disc with contains all the rock tracks, while the second disc would be comprised of acoustic tracks.
The band released their next studio album on September 2007 with the title of Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace, which also included one of their famous hits, The Pretender.
In further support of In Your Honor, the band decided to organize a short acoustic tour for the summer of 2006. The tour included former member Pat Smear, who rejoined the band as an extra guitarist, Petra Haden on violin, Drew Hester on percussion, and Rami Jaffee on piano. While much of the set list focused on In Your Honor's acoustic half, the band also used the opportunity to play lesser-known songs such as Ain't It The Life Floaty, and See You.
The new album, titled Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, was released September 25, 2007. The album's first single, The Pretender, was issued to radio in early August. The second single, Long Road to Ruin is due to be released on November 26, 2007.
